The 2021 MacBook Pro refresh introduces a new 14-inch screen size, and sees the debut of Apple's more powerful M1 Pro and M1 Max processors. Fans will be happy that MagSafe, HDMI, and an SD card slot have returned, and few will complain that Apple has dropped the Touch Bar. However the new notched screen will be a controversial feature. In use, the new MacBook Pro delivers excellent performance as well as battery life. The screen is crisp and vibrant, and apart from a few bugs, the notch is easy to get used to. The speakers are surprisingly rich and powerful, and Apple has done well with its keyboard, trackpad and webcam as well. Starting prices are high, and Apple still charges way too much for higher RAM and storage tiers. None of the hardware is upgradeable. Apple fans looking for an upgrade will like the new MacBook Pro, but there are plenty of reasonably priced Windows alternatives out there now.
